To ease the contradiction between water supply and demand in the Pearl River Delta and fully secure the water supply of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council have approved the construction of the Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project.
Upon completion, the project will benefit a population of over 50 million and underpin a total economic output of more than 9 trillion yuan, accounting for approximately 80% of the population and GDP of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The project consists of one main trunk, two sub-trunks, one branch pipeline, three pump stations and four regulation reservoirs. Its total water conveyance route stretches 113.2 kilometers, with an annual designed water supply volume of 1.708 billion cubic meters. The total investment stands at 35.399 billion yuan, and the overall construction period is 60 months.
On March 16, 2021, all inner-lined steel pipes for the test section project of the Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project constructed by Guangdong Hydropower Group were fully installed, marking a major phased progress of this project, one of the 172 national key water conservancy projects and a landmark initiative for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
This project marks the first domestic case of installing ribbed steel pipes with a diameter of 4.8 meters inside a shield tunnel with an inner diameter of 5.4 meters. It adopts Anyiyuan's unique friction-driven automatic internal circumferential welding system, combined with innovative construction methods developed by the construction company. This has greatly boosted the installation efficiency of 4.8-meter-diameter lining steel pipes, reduced workers' labor intensity, and ensured the smooth completion of steel pipe installation:
On April 27, 2019, construction kicked off on the prototype test structural section for lining steel pipe installation, with a total length of 209.5 meters finished on June 26 the same year;
On November 4, 2020, construction commenced on the process section and structural section of the second phase of lining steel pipe installation;
On March 16, 2021, a total length of 1,098 meters was completed (bringing the overall total to 1,307.5 meters). All 92 steel pipes for the process and structural sections of the second phase were fully installed within 132 days, achieving a one-time welding pass rate of 99.67%.
